Udemy Adds Darren Shimkus as VP and GM of Udemy for Business

Udemy, a San Francisco-based venture capital backed marketplace for online education, hired Darren Shimkus as vice president and general manager of Udemy for Business, its corporate training platform.

Shimkus brings nearly two decades of experience building and growing high-performing sales, marketing, and product management teams.
Most recently, he served as senior vice president of global sales and business development at Mophie, a technology company that manufactures smartphone accessories. At Mophie, Shimkus was responsible for driving revenue across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia. Prior to Mophie, he worked at the Corporate Executive Board (CEB), serving in various product development, sales, and general management roles.

At Udemy, he will lead all marketing, sales, strategy, and operations for the company’s corporate learning platform, which gives companies access to on-demand courses taught by experts, as well as the tools to develop their own training content for employees. It currently serves more than 200 customers, including Century 21, Lyft and General Mills.

Led by CEO Dennis Yang, Udemy has 8 million students and 18,000 instructors in more than 190 countries, and 2,000 new courses are added to the platform each month.
The company raised $65m in Series D Funding in June 2015.
