Sublime Systems, a Somerville, MA-based cement technology company, received an investment from Suffolk Technologies, the institutional venture capital platform affiliated with innovative builder Suffolk.
The amount of the deal was not disclosed. In addition to Suffolk Technologies’ investment, Suffolk has pre-purchased capacity from Sublime’s forthcoming first commercial manufacturing plant in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
Led by CEO Dr Leah Ellis, Sublime Systems is an advanced technology company producing cement via a proprietary process that replaces kilns – the most energy and fossil fuel-intensive part of the traditional cement manufacturing process – with an electrolyzer that makes cement at ambient temperature from a variety of abundant calcium sources, thereby avoiding both the use of fossil fuels and the release of CO2 from limestone.
