Northwood, a Los Angeles, CA-based company that builds and operates ground stations that communicate with satellites to download and process data, raised $30M in Series A funding.
The round was led by Alpine Space Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Also Capital, Founders Fund, Box Group, Balerion, Banter Capital, and Humba Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to scale production and deploy the first operational Northwood ground network.
Founded in 2022 by Bridgit Mendler, Griffin Cleverly, and Shaurya Luthra, Northwood is building an advanced, scalable ground network powered by phased array technology to deliver enhanced connectivity and resilience for space operations. Its innovative approach is designed to rapidly scale and improve the efficiency of satellite communication networks. The first Northwood sites are set to deploy in 2025.
