Volley, a San Francisco, CA-based creator of voice-controlled games played on TVs and smart speakers, raised $55M in Series C funding.

The round was led by Microsoft’s M12 Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Causeway Media Partners, General Catalyst, the Amazon Alexa Fund, BITKRAFT Ventures, Y Combinator, Boost VC, Alumni Ventures, Waverley, Gaingels, and Riverside also participated in the latest round.

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts.

Led by CEO Max Child and James Wilsterman, Volley creates games for the Amazon Alexa platform. In 2023, the company launched a gaming hub on the Roku platform and a mobile application for iOS and Android devices. Each Volley game is controlled by talking to a microphone-enabled device, such as a smart TV voice remote, smartphone, or smart speaker. The games feature an AI voice interface—rather than traditional input mechanisms like touch screens or handheld game controllers—making them instantly accessible to a broad audience of casual players.

The company earlier this year launched its 20 Questions game, an LLM-powered game that players can speak to naturally using just their voice. Volley also announced partnerships with Amazon and LG Electronics at CES to build new AI-powered games for their platforms.
