Surgical Safety Technologies Raises $15M in Series A Funding

Surgical Safety Technologies

Surgical Safety Technologies, a Toronto, Canada-based medical technology company, raised $15M in Series A funding.

The round was led by U.S. Venture Partners and Santé Ventures.

Founded by Teodor Grantcharov, Surgical Safety Technologies is the developer of The Black Box platform for healthcare and a suite of software and analytic products. The platform leverages AI both to inform real-time decision making and provide analytical insight in the areas of safety, compliance and efficiency, which improves patient outcomes and reduces hospital costs.

The company intends to use the funds for further adoption of its signature OR Black Box technology, which is already used by academic healthcare centers across North America and Europe.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that use of the OR Black Box® platform improves compliance to standard operating procedures (such as the World Health Organization’s surgical safety checklist) as well as clinical performance, and has resulted in reduction of never events and improved patient safety outcomes.

SST has nearly 60 employees across its Toronto and New York offices.
