Paleo, a Brussels, Belgium-based food company that leverages precision fermentation technology, raised €12Min Series A funding.
The round was led by DSM Venturing and Planet A Ventures, with participation from Gimv, SFPIM Relaunch, Beyond Impact, and Siddhi Capital.
The company intends to use the funds to scale the technology and move towards commercial production and file for regulatory approval in key markets.
Led by CEO Hermes Sanctorum and COO Andy de Jong, Paleo is a precision fermentation company that focuses on myoglobin, a protein that makes plant-based foods look and taste like meat or fish in terms of color, smell, taste, and aromatic experience and provides added nutritional value. This allows food manufacturers to offer a “real taste” experience, by providing key ingredients for environmentally friendly and cruelty-free meat and fish alternatives.
Currently, Paleo offers a protein portfolio of six different species (beef, chicken, pork, lamb, tuna, and even mammoth).
