Cockroach Labs Raises $278M; Valued At $5 Billion

Cockroach Labs, a NYC-based provider of cloud-native distributed SQL database CockroachDB, raised $278m in Series F funding at a valuation of $5 billion.

The round, which brings Cockroach Labs’ total funding to $633m, was led by Greenoaks with participation from Altimeter, BOND, Benchmark, Coatue, FirstMark, GV, Index Ventures, J.P. Morgan, Lone Pine Capital, Redpoint Ventures, and Tiger Global.

The company intends to use the funds for ongoing investments in the development of their cloud database as well as its continued customer growth and expansion into new markets.

Led by Spencer Kimball, CEO, and co-founder, Cockroach Labs is a cloud-native distributed SQL database, with a suite of elastically scalable and inherently resilient platforms: CockroachDB Self-hosted, CockroachDB Dedicated, and CockroachDB Serverless. The company has partnerships with two of the major cloud providers, AWS and Google, and is now Google Cloud Run’s first database partner.

With its cloud-native distributed SQL architecture, the company is becoming the transactional database of choice for innovators and category leaders including Comcast, Devsisters, eBay, Mythical Games, Nubank, Norfolk Southern, Starburst Data, AllSaints, Bose, and Form3.
