Tynt Technologies, a Boulder CO-based dynamic window company, raised $8.5M in Seed funding through a combination of private financing and federal grants.
The funding included:
- $1.5m angel round,
- $5.5m in Seed Financing, co-led by Prime Impact Fund and Starlight Ventures, with participation from Kompas Ventures. Dr. Johanna Wolfson, co-founder and Principal at Prime Impact Fund, joined Tynt’s Board of Directors.
- A $1.5 million award from the United States Department of Energy under the Buildings Energy Efficiency Frontiers & Innovation Technologies (BENEFIT) grant.
The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts.
Co-founded by CU Boulder Professor Mike McGehee and former Halio Chief Engineer, Ameen K. Saafir, Tynt aims to optimize comfort in the home by controlling daylight and privacy with dynamic windows, focusing on neutral color, energy savings and complete privacy.
Also joining Tynt from Professor McGehee’s research group are co-founders Dr. Michael Strand and Dr. Tyler Hernandez. John Dwyer, former VP of Advanced Products at Katerra, joins as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Officer. Taylor Aviles, formerly of Halio corporate marketing, completes the founding team.
