Battlesnake Raises $1.5M in Funding

Battlesnake, a Victoria, British Columbia, Canada-based company which offers developers the ability to learn new skills and have fun in a gaming environment, raised $1.5m (US dollars) in funding.

The round was led by Madrona Venture Group with participation from Liquid 2, Ascend, 200 OK, and angel investors including Jason Warner (former CTO GitHub) and Chris Aniszczyk (CTO Linux Foundation).

Co-founded by Brad Van Vugt, Noah Warder, and Chris Hoefgen, Battlesnake offers developers the ability to learn new skills and have fun in a gaming environment. It Battlesnake is for developers of all skill levels looking to experiment, practice, and learn new technologies. More than 10,000 developers have played Battlesnake, on their own and in corporate teams. 

Started in 2015 as a developer recruiting event in the Pacific Northwest, by 2019 the flagship Battlesnake Tournament in Victoria drew 1,500 participants and spectators. The company rapidly expanded scope, building a global online presence that attracts thousands of developers and spectators monthly.
