Nu Quantum, a Cambridge, UK-based quantum photonics company, raised £2.1m in seed funding.
Backers included existing investors Amadeus Capital Partners. Ahren Innovation Capital, IQ Capital, Cambridge Enterprise and Martlet Capital and new investor Seraphim Capital.
The company intends to use the funds to build out its photonics lab in Cambridge and recruit scientists, product team members and business functions as they approach the launch of its first commercial technology demonstration.
Led by Dr Carmen Palacios-Berraquero, CEO, Nu Quantum is developing quantum photonics hardware by combining quantum optics, novel materials and traditional semiconductor physics for communications, sensing and computing.
The first application of the technology will be a quantum photonic system for the generation of high-quality cryptographic keys.
