SoftIron Raises $34M in Series B Funding

SoftIron Ltd., a London, UK-based provider of purpose-built and performance-optimized data center appliances, raised $34m in Series B equity funding.

The round was led by co-founder Norman Fraser, a serial IT entrepreneur whose previous successes include two IPO tech stars that achieved unicorn valuations: Vocalis (LSE:VOC, 1996) and Endava (NYSE:DAVA, 2018).

The company will use the funding to expand its presence across North America, Europe, and the APAC region with planned growth in sales, product marketing, and support, and to strengthen engineering initiatives to build its portfolio of data center appliances based on leading open source software solutions.

Co-founded by CEO Phil Straw, Mark Chen and Fraser, and also led by CSO Harry Richardson, SoftIron creates task-specific appliances for scale-out data center solutions, delivering industry-leading performance across metrics including density, efficiency, capacity, speed and heat emission. Its hardware is designed, developed and assembled in California and is purpose-built to optimize the performance of open-source software for hyper-scale and SMB data centers. The company recently added HyperSwitchâ„¢, a next-generation top-of-rack switch built to maximize the performance and flexibility of SONiC.
