Adjacent Academies Raises $2.1M in Seed Funding

Adjacent Academies

Adjacent Academies, a San Francisco, CA-based startup that enables liberal arts students to earn college credit while building in-demand tech skills, closed a $2.1m seed funding.

The round was led by Rethink Education with participation from New Ground Ventures, Bisk Ventures and Entangled Group.

Launched in 2019 under the leadership of former Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation staffer Anh Nguyen, Adjacent Academies provides liberal arts graduates with courses to improve the skills, networks, and opportunities to thrive in the technological transformation world.

Students who enroll in Adjacent’s programs have the opportunity to participate in immersive, credit-bearing courses. Students gain not just technical competency in skills such as JavaScript, but actively integrate and refine soft skills such as communication and teamwork and the critical ability to consider ethics and values while designing technologies.

The program’s presence in Silicon Valley enables the incorporation of regular visits to tech startups and more established companies across an array of industries. Students who enrolled in the first year of the program visited firms like Slack, LinkedIn, and Remind.
