muzmatch Secures $7M in Series A Funding

muzmatchMuzmatch, a London, UK-based Muslim dating app, closed a $7m Series A funding round.

The round, which follows a $1.75M seed round in 2018, led by Fabrice Grinda’s FJ Labs, Y Combinator, and Hambro Perks, was led by Luxor Capital and Y Combinator.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations and its business reach.

Led by founder and CEO Shahzad Younas, muzmatch combines the features of mainstream dating apps whilst respecting Islamic sensibilities when it comes to finding a partner. Innovative features include complete privacy and anonymity, as well as chaperone support.
Since launching, the app has gained over 1.5M members and over 30,000 successes worldwide. It operates in 210 countries and is available in 14 different languages.

Formerly an Investment Banker at Morgan Stanley for ten years, Shahzad Younas quit his career to found muzmatch in 2014 after spotting a gap in the underserved Muslim market. Self taught, he created and launched the app which was received well by the community.
