Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Launches New Investment Department

Ontario Teachers' Pension PlanOntario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Canada’s largest single-profession pension plan, is launching a new department called Teachers’ Innovation Platform.

The new investment initiative will focus on late-stage venture capital and growth equity investments in companies that use technology to disrupt incumbents and create new sectors.

It will be led by new Senior Managing Director Olivia Steedman, who has been at Ontario Teachers’ since 2002.
She has been a founding member and senior leader of the infrastructure and natural resources group, which has grown into a $26 billion global platform.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is Canada’s largest single-profession pension plan, with $191.1 billion in net assets at Dec. 31, 2018. It holds a diverse global portfolio of assets, approximately 80% of which is managed in-house, and has earned an annual total-fund net return of 9.7% since the plan’s founding in 1990.
Ontario Teachers’ is an independent organization headquartered in Toronto. Its Asia-Pacific region office is located in Hong Kong and its Europe, Middle East & Africa region office is in London.
