GuruShots Raises $5M in Series A Funding

gurushotsGuruShots, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based platform combining mobile games with real-world photo-taking, raised $5m in Series A funding.

The round, which brought total funding to $6.5m, was led by Altair Capital, Buran Venture Capital, and Ervington Investments Limited.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate global scale-up, enhance product development and build up customer acquisition capabilities.

Led by Gilon Miller, Founder and CEO, GuruShots offers a game to allow people to interact with their photos. Players compete in daily photo challenges and work their way up from Newbie to Guru status by receiving peer votes, points, and achievements.
Gameplay includes:
– Capture fresh photos out on the street,
– Enter photos in daily themed challenges,
– the crowd rates photos instantly; members can see which photos rank highest, swap in stronger shots, and follow their ranking in real-time
– Top members snag prizes, from in-game power-ups to photo gear and gift cards.

GuruShots hosts five photo exhibitions each month, from New York and London to Cape Town, Singapore and beyond. About 5,000 GuruShots players are recognized each month, with tens of thousands already exhibited.
