Boulder Food Group, a Boulder, CO- and Los Angeles, CA-based venture capital firm focused on early-stage food and beverage consumer product companies, closed its second fund, at more than $100m.
Founded in 2014 in Boulder, Colorado by Tom Spier, Boulder Food Group is a venture capital fund partnering with early stage food and beverage consumer product companies providing them with capital and hands-on strategic support.
The initial investment from BFG Fund II is going to Olipop, a clinically-backed digestive health beverage that benefits the microbiome, digestive function, and metabolic health in cans of flavored tonic. The company joined the portfolio that includes Barnana, Caulipower, 4th and Heart, Birch Benders, and other innovative food brands.
Spier, a co-founder of Evol Foods (acquired by Boulder Brands) and COO of Bear Naked (acquired by Kellogg’s), has first-hand experience starting, growing, and selling food startups, and is involved in several nonprofits tackling critical food issues.
The team, has an outstanding track record from their first fund ($50+m) which includes the sale of Austin TX based Chameleon Cold Brew to Nestle in 2017, after a 2-year hold period, also includes Dayton Miller, Managing Partner, based in Los Angeles.
