Back to the Roots, an Oakland, CA-based organic food & gardening company, raised $3M in series C funding.
The round was led by Central Garden & Pet (NASDAQ: CENT), which was joined by new investor Blue Scorpion Investments.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate its growth in the indoor gardening market.
Co-founded in 2009 by Co-CEOs Alejandro Velez and Nikhil Arora, Back to the Roots is an organic food & gardening company selling a line of breakfast cereals and indoor gardening kits. Products include the Water Garden, a home aquaponic ecosystem, Mushroom Grow Kits, and a range of windowsill herb & veggie planters for schools and homes.
They are distributed in national retailers including Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Bloomingdale’s, Petco, Costco, The Home Depot, Target, Lowe’s, Whole Foods, etc.
