Carta, a Palo Alto, CA-based provider of a platform for companies to manage equity, raised $80m in Series D funding.
The round, which brought the valuation of the company to $800m, was led by Meritech and Tribe Capital, with participation from existing investors.
The company intends to use the funds:
– to launch additional products for investors, especially for collecting data from their portfolio companies and managing their back office, and
– to develop its transfer agent and equity administration products and services.
Led by Henry Ward, CEO, Carta provides ownership management and compliance solutions which make it easy for public and private companies of all stages to turn employees into owners. As an SEC-registered transfer agent, the company helps companies issue, value, and transfer securities and leverages its reporting and administrative tools to keep users compliant with the latest SEC and IRS regulations.
Carta’s customers now manage $500 billion in equity on the platform.
The company has 450 employees.
