Scala Computing Closes $1.5M Funding Round

scalaScala Computing, a NYC-based provider of a high-performance computing (HPC) platform for enterprises to leverage Big Compute on-demand, on the cloud, closed an additional $1.5M in funding.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate the market penetration of its compute platform.

Co-founded by Arjun Kapoor and Shiv Kumar, and also led by Rob Zecha COO, and Sam Rahman, CTO, Scala Computing provides the Scala Compute Platform, an end-to-end, secure and hyper-scalable high-performance computing (HPC) platform that enables enterprises of all sizes to leverage Big Compute on-demand, on the cloud.
The company counts New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection as one of its key clients where the platform was deployed to run their water quality models on the cloud.
Scala Computing also has a strategic collaboration with NCAR (the National Center for Atmospheric Research) on its cloud infrastructure platform for the development of new cloud capabilities for the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model for weather prediction. The Scala Compute Platform offers end-to-end functionality for weather forecasting firms and atmospheric research groups to migrate, run, and manage the WRF application in the cloud.

The company has also added Dr. Vyas Sekar, the Angel Jordan Early Career Chair and Associate Professor in the ECE Department at Carnegie Mellon University, and Dr. Yuefan Deng, Distinguished Professor at Stony Brook University’s Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, to its technical advisory board.
