Precision Agriculture Company Taranis Raises $20M

Taranis DashboardTaranis, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based precision agriculture intelligence platform, closed a $20m Series B round of financing.

The round was led by Viola Ventures, with participation from existing investors Finistere Ventures, Vertex Ventures, OurCrowd, Eyal Gura and Gal Yarden, joined by strategic investors – Nutrien, Cavallo Ventures, the venture capital arm of Wilbur-Ellis, and Sumitomo Corporation Europe.

The company, which has raised $30M to date, intends to use the funds to continue to enhance its AI-powered solution and high-resolution imagery tools to accelerate its growth in Argentina, Brazil, Russia, the United States and expansion into Australia.

Led by Ofir Schlam, CEO and Cofounder, Taranis is a precision agriculture intelligence platform that uses computer vision, data science and deep learning algorithms to monitor fields. The system enables farmers to make informed decisions by detecting early symptoms of weeds, uneven emergence, nutrient deficiencies, disease or insect infestations, water damage and equipment problems. The solution currently oversees millions of acres of farmland in Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Ukraine and the United States.

Taranis, which employs over 50 people in Tel Aviv and subsidiaries in Argentina, Brazil and the U.S., completed its second acquisition, Mavrx, earlier this year.
