Roblox Acquires PacketZoom

-

robloxRoblox, a San Mateo, Calif.-based online entertainment platform for kids and teens, acquired PacketZoom, a San Mateo, CA-based provider of an in-app networking technology platform to increase mobile app engagement.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

A five-year-old company focused on re-designing mobile application performance, PacketZoom provides a patented mobile networking solution to overcome the limitations of slow and unreliable mobile networks and ensure faster and lower latency data transfers worldwide.

Its Mobile AMPO (Application Performance Monitoring & Optimization) platform offers an end-to-end solution to analyze, detect and resolve mobile app networking issues in real-time without changing the app code. Mobile IQ provides insight into mobile app performance issues, while Mobile Expresslane immediately fixes them to speed up mobile apps, rescue connection errors and reduce CDN costs.

As part of the acquisition, PacketZoom’s founder and CTO, Chetan Ahuja, along with the PacketZoom engineering team, will join Roblox to boost its networking game engine as the company continues to grow its user base globally.
Roblox users can expect to join games faster and have an overall better game experience on mobile platforms as the company integrates PacketZoom’s technology and IP.

Led by David Baszucki, CEO and co-founder, Roblox provides a platform enabling kids of all ages to imagine, create, and play together in immersive 3D worlds. It is freely available on all modern smartphones, tablets, computers, Xbox One, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive.
The company closed a $150m in Series F financing in Sept. 2018.
