Imbellus Raises $14.5M in Series A Financing

workImbellus, a Los Angeles, CA-based developer of simulation-based assessment technology, closed a $14.5m Series A financing.

The round – which brought total funding to $23m – was led by Owl Ventures, with participation from Upfront Ventures and Thrive Capital, and Rethink Education.

Rebecca Kantar, Founder and CEO, Imbellus builds simulation-based cognitive assessments to evaluate how people think instead of what they know.
Rather than map assessments to the academic demands of college, the company works with organizations renowned for skills like creativity or problem solving to investigate the application of these skills in the real world. It then translates observed skills and attributes into the language of learning science and psychometrics to design complex challenges that bring problem solving contexts to life via abstract, simulation-based assessments.

In the above way, Imbellus aims to replace the standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and AP exams.
