Farmer’s Fridge, a Chicago, IL-based maker of food offered in vending machines, closed a $30m Series C funding.
The round was led by Innovation Endeavors, with participation from Cleveland Avenue, DNS Capital, Dom Capital, Hyde Park Angels, Finistere Ventures, GreatPoint Ventures, and Danone Manifesto Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to expand beyond Chicago and Milwaukee to other cities including Detroit, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and St. Louis, to grow into a second region outside the Midwest, and hire new people reaching 200 employees by the end of next year.
Founded in 2013 by Luke Saunders, Farmer’s Fridge serves locally made fresh salads, bowls, snacks, etc., through automated smart fridges. The company currently has 186 machines in such locations as hospitals, airports, stores and small office buildings.
The app works along with an app that allows customers to check the food in nearby machines and earn rewards.
