Danish Company Develops App To Find And Access Gym When Travelling

trainawayTrainAway has developed an app that helps travellers find a gym anywhere in the world.

TrainAway, based in Copenhagen, Denamark, has built and launched the largest directory of gyms in the world. Based around their app, users are able to search a database of over 130,000 gyms in over 140 countries with the aim of making it easier to work out when away from home.

TrainAway is currently in the process of developing direct links with gyms in multiple destinations. Right now users can buy day passes on the app to fourteen different countries, but this is expected to exceed fifty countries by 2019. This coincides with a continued fundraising phase which has so far attracted investment from across Europe.

The global fitness industry continues to grow, with the travel and wellness market now worth over $450bn. There is an increasing trend of exercising while travelling, with a potential pool of over 25 million users. Market research outlined widespread dissatisfaction with hotel gym facilities among fitness enthusiasts, and a willingness to pay for one-off gym access.

A number of companies have attempted to tap into the travel fitness market, with mixed success. TrainAway’s progress towards a global platform aims to provide the coverage that was lacking in previous iterations. Their simple commission-based gym day pass model also has none of the contractual obstacles that have proved boundaries in the past.

For users, TrainAway removes the myriad difficulties of finding a gym, while creating a new source of income for gyms in the form of travellers – a group that was previously both difficult and expensive for gyms to attract. In addition, it has proven to be an attractive new perk for gyms to offer to their own members when they travel, enabling their members to stay in their active routine when away from home.
