Studio XID, the Seoul, South Korea—based company behind ProtoPie, an interactive prototyping tool for digital product designers to turn their design ideas into prototypes, raised $3.5M in Series A funding.
The round was led by Korea Investment Partners with participation from Kolon Investment and Posco Venture Capital.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate expansion in terms of product development and growth in predominantly western markets.
Founded by Tony Kim, a former interaction designer at Google; Scotty Kim, a former software engineer at Samsung and John Song, a former software engineer at Naver, ProtoPie allows designers to utilize sensors in smart devices, e.g. tilt, proximity and sound sensors when it comes to highly interactive prototyping, to create prototypes that can communicate with each other by generating interactions across devices.
Furthermore, prototypes made in ProtoPie can integrate with external hardware like Arduino or littleBits.
Since launching ProtoPie commercially last year and raising a Pre-Series A with venture capital firm Evergreen Investment Partners and the investment arms of international giants Samsung and LINE, the prototyping tool has been experiencing growth with designers in more than 70 countries at companies like Google, Microsoft, Nintendo, IDEO and Alibaba who have integrated ProtoPie in their daily workflow.
The company is based in the heart of Gangnam in Seoul, South Korea.
