Metamaterials Startup Metaboards Raises $5M in Funding

Metaboards, an Oxford, UK, metamaterials startup, raised $5m in funding.

The round was led by Oxford Sciences Innovation (OSI) with additional funds coming from investors RT Capital Management Inc and Woodford Investment Management Ltd.

The company intends to use the funds to bring to market its patented, wireless charging technology.

Founded in 2016 by researchers from Oxford University focusing on Metamaterials, currently one of the most dynamic scientific research areas, and led by CEO Nedko Ivanov, Metaboards is creating flexible ways to embed wireless charging into surfaces so that multiple items can be charged simultaneously without the need for close alignment or multiple power supplies.
Metaboards’ technology makes it possible to charge tablets, games consoles and controllers, computers and any other non-metal electronic device at the same time and on the same surface.
