Crowd Cow Raises $8M in Series A Financing

Crowd Cow, a Seattle, WA-based meat delivery company, raised $8m in Series A financing.

The round was led by Madrona Venture Group with participation from Ashton Kutcher & Guy Oseary’s Sound Ventures and existing investors Joe Montana of Liquid 2 Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to add more new ranches and farms to its online platform, further improve its supply chain, and go on the search for new flavors in categories like Craft Beef, Pastured Chicken, Heritage Pork, and beyond.

Founded by Joe Heitzeberg and Ethan Lowry, Crowd Cow offers small-batch craft meats from a network of independent farms, delivered straight to customers. Initially launched as a crowdfunding campaign for a single cow in which the entrepreneurs invited 100 of their friends to buy shares and get access to locally-sourced meat, the business generated $1 million in sales before expanding nationwide last summer.
The company expanded its offerings to include flavors in specialized cuts of chicken, pork, and olive wagyu, as well as expanded to provide nationwide delivery.
