Aston EyeTech Raises £5m in Series A Funding

Aston EyeTech Limited, a Birmingham, UK-based company that has developed a range of proprietary hardware and software products in ocular care, raised £5m in Series A funding.

Backers included:
– Mercia Technologies, which made a £1.8m investment taking a direct equity stake of 19.4%, and
– an Asian-based investment syndicate.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate product development and launch its products.

Led by Carl Francis, CEO, Aston EyeTech combines portable and digital eye tests with artificial intelligence driven software platforms to support their industrial partners to enhance and validate their prototype technology. Projects include: advanced, intelligent, diagnostic support software; portable, low cost, innovative instrumentation to assess eye health and to refract the eyes; and refinement and validation of eye tracking equipment to diagnose and manage visual fatigue.

The company is a spinout from the School of Optometry at Aston University, one of Mercia’s 19 university partners.
