Penthera Partners, a New York-based creator of download-to-go (D2Go) software, received $6m in funding.
The round was led by Liberty Global Ventures, the venture investment arm of Liberty Global International, an international cable company and a Penthera customer.
The proceeds will be used to expand the company’s worldwide sales efforts and accelerate the development of new products and enhancements to existing products.
Led by Michael Willner, CEO, and Dan Taitz, COO, Penthera provides a D2Go solution which allows consumers to watch video content when they don’t have access to a suitable internet connection. Its patented D2Go solution, Cache&CarryTM, includes built-in DRM support, continues downloading while end-users check email or use other apps on their devices, when the device is locked or in sleep mode. Cache&Carry also supports configurable business rules such as custom expiry of video files, the ability to determine download order, or to automatically pause the download if the device battery or memory are low, and includes FastPlayTM, a buffer-free video launcher that starts live streaming the moment play is pressed, without the start-up delay that causes buffer rage.
Penthera also provides mobile DVR capability, allowing users to subscribe for daily/weekly downloads of a favorite show.
