Taranis, a Tel Aviv, Israel-based precision agriculture intelligence platform, closed a $7.5m Series A round of financing.

The round was led by Finistere Ventures and Vertex Ventures with participation from existing investors Eshbol Investments, Mindset Ventures, OurCrowd, and angel investor Eyal Gura. In conjunction with the funding, Arama Kukutai, Finistere Ventures, and Yanai Oron, Vertex Ventures, will join Taranis’ Board.

The company, which has raised $9.5m in total funding to date, intends to use the funds to further grow its scalable pest and disease prediction platform and grow its global reach.

Led by CEO Ofir Schlam, Taranis is a precision agriculture intelligence platform for farmers to monitor their fields, make informed decisions and then act on them. The solution uses deep learning on proprietary data sets that includes sub-mm aerial imagery, field sensors, satellite imagery, weather forecast and data from its field scouting app to predict and prevent losses from crop disease and pests.

The company, which has subsidiaries in Argentina and Brazil, is currently establishing a U.S. office and expanding into India and Russia.
