Saphlux Raises $5M in Funding

Saphlux, a New Haven, CT-based producer of semi-polar GaN materials to solve efficiency droop and green gap problems in LEDs and lasers, raised $5m in funding.

The round was led by Leyard (Hong Kong), a $4 billion company that specializes in outdoor LED display, which invested $3.5m, with participation from ZhenFund, Elm Street Ventures, and NXT, which provided a combined $1.5m in funding.

The company intends to use the funds to invest in its new LED technology, setting up its pilot manufacturing facility and scaling up production.

Founded in 2014 by Chen Chen and Jung Han, Saphlux produces innovative semi-polar emitter materials that enable LEDs and lasers that will be compatible with most applications.
