Kinestral Technologies, Inc., a South San Francisco, CA-based developer of a responsive smart-tinting glass, closed a $65m Series C equity funding round.
Backers included AGC Asahi Glass, Hermes-Epitek, 5AM Ventures, Alexandria Venture Investments, Capricorn Investment Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, and Versant Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Jean-François Heris, senior executive officer of AGC and president of AGC Building and Industrial Glass Company, joined Kinestral’s board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds to launch its Halio into North America beginning later this year and into the global marketplace in 2018.
Led by S.B. Cha, CEO, Kinestral Technologies develops technologies that transform glass into architectural elements. The company’s research and development efforts have resulted in a global patent portfolio in manufacturing, device processing, and smart window control systems.
Its flagship product, Halio, available in selected markets, is a smart-tinting glass that delivers shade and protection from the sun’s glare within seconds.
