Agricool Raises €4M in VC Funding

agricoolAgricool, a Paris, France-based agtech company, raised €4M in funding.

Backers included Daphni VC, Henri Seydoux and Jean Daniel Guyot.

The company intends to use the funds to speed up development with the goal for 2017 to install 75 containers (called cooltainers) and begin to work on two new crops.

Created in 2015 by Gonzague Gru and Guillaume Fourdinier, Agricool provides fruit and vegetable shipping containers with optimized growing
conditions in terms of irrigation, lighting, CO2, etc., which do not use pesticides, reduce the amount of water needed by 90%, and only use renewable energy sources. The Cooltainers can be placed almost anywhere in cities and towns, and managed even by people without any previous experience in farming.
The first fruit that is being grown is the strawberry.

The startup has 30 employees in a 1,500 square meter warehouse in La Courneuve, outside Paris.
