Sonder Raises $10M in Series A Funding

sonderSonder, a Montreal, Canada- and San Francisco, CA-based peer-to-peer “hometel” rental service for travelers, raised $10m in funding.

The round was led by Spark Capital with participation from Thayer Ventures, Real Ventures and BDC Capital.

The company, which has raised $15m in total funding, intends to use the funds to expand into new cities, enhance the guest experience and onboard key new hires.

Led by Francis Davidson, CEO and co-founder, Sonder has just launched a service for travelers who wish to combine the peer-to-peer home rental experience with the services of a hotel. Each hometel, managed by Sonder, must meet an accurate checklist before joining the collection.
The customer support and concierge services are available by email, phone, and Facebook Messenger 24/7, and all guest requests are addressed within minutes. In addition, bookings are instantly confirmed.

Sonder Hometels are located in intimate neighborhoods and include houses, condos, apartments, and boats. At launch, Sonder offers more than 500 hometels in six cities in the U.S. (Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Diego) and Canada (Montreal and Vancouver). Miami, New York, San Francisco, and Toronto will be launching later this year.
