Primomiglio Holds First Close of Barcamper Ventures, at $30M

barcamperPrimomiglio Sgr, a Milan, Italy-based newly formed investment firm, held the first close of its maiden fund, at $30m.

Investors include Fondo Italiano d’Investimento, Banca Sella Holding, Unindustria Bologna, Fondazione Puglia, Società Reale Mutua di Assicurazioni and Ignazio Carrassi (Villar). The fund has a final target of €50m to be reached in the next 12 months.

Led by Gianluca Dettori (President of Primomiglio), Antonio Concolino (CEO of Primomiglio), and partner Franco Gonella, Barcamper Ventures aims to invest in and accelerate 200 early stage tech companies in Italy. Barcamper Ventures will make acceration investments in startups sourced and selected by the Barcamper program, which will be managed by dpixel, advisor of Primomiglio and Barcamper Ventures, as well as opportunistic investments in startups that have already started their commercial activity.

Led by new President Claudia Gottero, Barcamper is an itinerant program which uses a mobile office (a camper) to travel Italy to source and select investment opportunities. The first call of the new 12 week program will open on September 7, 2016, and will take place in Bologna. It will focus on business plan, funding and business model validation.

The board of Primomiglio also include Grazia Borri of Banca Sella Holding Spa and Andrea Zanoni, partner of Nascimbene & Partners, as an independent member.
