Google Acquires Urban Engines

Urban Engines, a Los Altos, CA-based urban mobility startup, has been acquired by Google (GOOG).

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

Founded in 2012 by Narayanan Shivakumar and Balaji Prabhakar, Urban Engines provides a mapping, visualization, reporting, and analytics platform that allows companies, cities, and commuters to get actionable urban mobility insights from movement data generated by the Internet of Moving Things.

The company, backed by GV, Andreessen Horowitz, Eric Schmidt, Ram Shriram, SVAngel, and Greylock Partners, is to join the Google Maps team and advance new location analytics solutions.
