Fauna Closes $4.5M in Seed Funding

-

faunaFauna, Inc., a San Francisco, CA-based startup building an adaptive operational database, closed a $4.5M in seed funding.

The round was led by Charles River Ventures, with participation from existing investors Data Collective, Quest VP, the Webb Investment Network, and Ulu Ventures as well as a number of angel investors, including Scott McNealy, founder of SUN Microsystems, and Olivier Pomel, founder of DataDog.

Founded in 2012 by Evan Weaver, CEO, and Matt Freels, CTO, Fauna has developed FaunaDB, an adaptive operational database that lets digital businesses address the requirements of modern applications, without sacrificing agility by combining global distribution with an innovative multi-tenant architecture allocating resource consumption by business priority.
FaunaDB is currently in managed beta. Early customers using cloud and on-premise deployments include NVIDIA, as well as other industry leaders in data-rich industries such as social, mobile, SaaS, IoT, and gaming.
