Camstent, a Cambridge, UK-based medical materials company, raised £850k in funding.
The backers remained undisclosed.
The company intends to use the funds to bring its first product, the Camstent Foley Catheter, to market.
Led by new COO Joe Byrne, Camstent develops coatings that prevent attachment of bacteria, blood, and proteins to the surface of consumable medical devices. The first product, Camstent Foley Catheter, aims to help prevent catheter-acquired urinary tract infections (CAUTI). It is expected to receive European regulatory approval in Q4 2016. Product shipments is planned to begin from the company’s recently opened Colworth Park manufacturing facility in Bedfordshire, both for trials and first volume sales.
