Short-Distance Aviation Company Flyblade Completes Series A Funding

bladeFlyblade, Inc., a NYC-based digitally powered short-distance aviation company, completed a Series A financing of undisclosed amount.

The round was led by Raine Ventures, the venture fund managed by the Raine Group, and David Zaslav, personally (CEO of Discovery Communications, Inc). Concurrently with the closing of the financing, the company has appointed Kenneth Lerer – a managing partner of Lerer, Hippeau Ventures as well as co-founder and former chairman of The Huffington Post – as Chairman of its board of directors.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations.

Led by CEO Rob Wiesenthal and Steve Martocci, Flyblade is a short distance aviation company that leverages a technology platform to allow people to privately charter a helicopter, seaplane, or jet via an iPhone or Android app.

The service is active in the Cape between Nantucket, Manhattan, and Westchester and recently launched in Nantucket, Boston and Hyannis. Destinations also include Cape May, Spring Lake, Long Beach Island, Ocean City, and Margate.
The company also operates passenger lounges in New York City, Miami, and Massachusetts.
