Giraffe Closes Seed Funding Round

giraffeGiraffe, a South African-based low-cost automated recruitment service, closed a seed round of funding.

The round was led by Silicon Valley-based venture firm Omidyar Network.

The company intends to use the funds to expand to Cape Town, Durban and the rest of South Africa.

Led by Anish Shivdasani, CEO and cofounder, Giraffe provides an automated mobile recruitment app that enables businesses to recruit medium-skilled staff and connect medium-skilled jobseekers with opportunities for free. To recruit staff, employers can submit a staff request online at www.giraffe.co.za. Giraffe then uses a matching algorithm to source, screen, and schedule interviews with qualified candidates, contacting them via SMS — all within 48 hours from the initial request.
Since launching in Johannesburg in February 2015, the company has grown to over 90,000 jobseekers (in Johannesburg, Pretoria and the Gauteng area) and has scheduled several thousand candidates for interview, primarily for permanent jobs in retail, call centre, transportation, and administrative services.
