AirMap Raises $15M in Series A Funding

airmapAirMap, a Santa Monica, CA-based free, comprehensive digital map that allows unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operators to visualize the airspace around them, including areas where they may not be permitted to fly, raised $15m in Series A funding.

Backers included General Catalyst Partners, Lux Capital, Social Capital, Bullpen Capital, Pritzker Group, TenOneTen Ventures, Sky Dayton, and Thomas Lehrman.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate development of the airspace management system for drones.

Co-founded by aviation expert and entrepreneur Ben Marcus and legal scholar on drones, public policy and air rights Dr. Gregory McNeal, AirMap provides airspace information and services to help unmanned aircraft operate safely in the low-altitude airspace by getting access to a free digital map allowing drone operators (inventors of drones & drone technology, drone operators, and airspace stakeholders) to visualize the airspace around them, including areas where they may not be permitted to fly.
