Cloud4wi, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a services platform for advanced guest Wi-Fi, raised $8m in funding.
Backers included existing investor United Ventures along with two US venture capital funds.
The round, which follows a $4m Series A funding raised in 2014 led by United Ventures, will allow the company to expand operations globally.
Led by Andrea Calcagno, CEO and co-founder, Cloud4Wi offers Volare, a services platform for advanced guest Wi-Fi. The open, cloud-based solution allows large retail chains, restaurant chains, and shopping malls to build their brands by leveraging their existing Wi-Fi networks to provide on-site mobile experiences, while gaining customer insights. The platform, which is distributed through channel partners and connects more than 45 million mobile users across 15,000 locations in more than 80 countries, allows brands to build an opt-in lead database, learn more about in-store customer behavior, and engage consumers on-site via their mobile devices.
Volare also includes such features as mobile app integration, enhanced targeting capabilities, and a developer suite.
Customers include Armani, Burger King, Bulgari, Clarks Shoes, Olive Garden, Prada, and Telecom Italia.
Cloud4Wi also has offices in London, Paris, Milan, Pisa and Singapore.
