Oracle Acquires Ravello Systems

oracleRavello Systems, a Palo Alto, CA-based nested virtualization software company, has been acquired by Oracle (NYSE: ORCL).

According to reports, the proposed transaction, which is still subject to customary closing conditions, could amount to approx. $500m.

Led by Rami Tamir, CEO, Ravello Systems provides a nested virtualization and software-defined networking SaaS which enables enterprises to create cloud-based development, test, UAT, integration and staging environments by automatically cloning their VMware-based applications in AWS.
The company’s team will now join the Oracle Public Cloud (OPC) organization with products becoming part of Oracle Cloud.

According to a blog post by Tamir, in the coming months, the team will be working to develop new products and services enabled by the new combination.

Oracle Cloud offers services across a full suite of products in software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). With the acquisition, Oracle will enhance its mission to allow customers to run any type of workload in the cloud, accelerating its ability to help them quickly move complex applications to the cloud without costly and time-consuming application rewrites.
