Geofeedia Raises $17M in Funding

logo-geofeediaGeofeedia, a Chicago, IL-based provider of real-time location-based intelligence platform, raised $17m in funding.

The round was led by Silversmith Capital Partners’ $15m investment with participation from existing investors. In conjunction with the funding, Todd MacLean, managing partner and co-founder of Silversmith, will join Geofeedia’s Board of Directors.

The company intends to use the funds for further innovation of its map-based platform.

Led by Phil Harris, CEO and co-founder, Geofeedia provides a map-based platform that allows media organizations, public sector groups, marketing organizations, and corporate risk mitigation teams to predict, analyze and act on real-time data from social media sources such as Instagram, Twitter, Sina Weibo, Periscope, Vine, YouTube. Marketers use it to understand what’s happening at places important to them, engage at a local level and customize target audiences to support campaigns.
For the public sector, Geofeedia provides local, city, state and federal government organizations with information on emerging situations to better aid response efforts, delivering critical situational awareness information that guides first responders.

Customers include companies such as Dell, CNN, Mall of America, the NCAA and others.

The company, which also has offices in Indianapolis and Naples, Fla., employs 50 people.
