Farmers Edge, a Canadian provider of precision agriculture and independent data management solutions, received CAD$58m in funding.
The round was led by existing investors Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers’ Green Growth Fund and Osmington, Inc.
The company intends to use the funds for expansion of the data science team, new product development and global growth into South America, Australia and Eastern Europe. In conjunction with the funding, Kenji Otake, General Manager, First Business Dept., IT Platform Div. of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. will join the Farmers Edge Board of Directors.
Led by Brian Hayward, Chairman, and Wade Barnes, President and CEO, Farmers Edge provides FarmCommand, a fully integrated farm management platform that gives users the ability to capture and analyze farm data from anywhere, any time. It combines hardware, software and human support to deliver operational intelligence, giving users more independence to make advanced and informed management decisions to maximize efficiencies, production and profitability.
The company is now opening its U.S. headquarters in Minnesota.
