Microsoft to Acquire Secure Islands

microsoftMicrosoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is to acquire Secure Islands, a Beit-Dagan, Israel-based provider of data protection technology.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

Led by CEO Aki Eldar, Secure Islands provides global customers, such as UBS, OSRAM, Vodafone and Credit Suisse with data classification, protection and loss prevention technologies for virtually any type of file, which allows customers to apply data protection to more applications.

The acquisition aims to accelerate Microsoft’s ability to allow customers to secure their business data no matter where it is stored – across on-premises systems, Microsoft cloud services like Azure and Office 365, third-party services, and any Windows, iOS or Android device.
After completing this acquisition, the software giant will integrate Secure Islands’ technology into Azure Rights Management Service, its cloud-based information protection solution.
The company has long been a close Microsoft partner and built its solutions using its rights management technology.

Following the close of the deal, still subject to regulatory approval, Secure Islands will continue to sell its existing solutions and support its customers.
