Founders of uBiome Form AngelList Syndicate

microbiomefundJessica Richman and Zachary Apte, the founders of uBiome, a microbial genomics company, have formed a new AngelList syndicate to facilitate angel investment in early stage businesses in the emerging microbiome space.

Dave Morin will be joining the syndicate while additional accredited angel investors are invited to join. Angels investing in Microbiome Fund syndicate will use AngelList to pledge to invest a set amount, then can either choose to participate in all the syndicate’s investments or to opt for involvement on an case-by-case basis.

The Microbiome Fund syndicate is the only investment syndicate in the world to focus specifically on the microbiome, which is the rich community of bacteria carried both in and on the bodies of all human beings, playing a crucial part in health. Individuals play host to between three and six pounds of bacteria (for comparison, the human brain weighs around three pounds), with microbial cells outnumbering human cells by as much as ten to one. This bacteria affects health in many ways, both positively and negatively. For example it assists with the digestion of food, and helps to synthesize vitamins. Less benign bacteria, however, can contribute to numerous serious conditions.
