Cask Data, Inc., a Palo Alto, CA-based provider of open source software for developers to deliver enterprise-class Apache HadoopTM applications, raised $20M in Series B financing.
The round was led by Safeguard Scientifics (NYSE:SFE), with participation from Battery Ventures, Ignition Partners and other existing investors. In conjunction with the funding, Philip D. Moyer, Managing Director, Technology at Safeguard, and Frank Artale, managing partner, Ignition Partners, joined Cask’s board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds for platform enhancements and sales team expansion.
Led by Founder and CEO Jonathan Gray, Cask provides an open source software framework (the Cask Data Application Platform) that allows developers to to use their existing skills to accelerate the building and deployment of large-scale data applications for Hadoop.
Major customers and partners include AT&T, Cloudera, Salesforce, Pet360 and Lotame.
