Tagstr, a Cheltenham, UK-based social media platform, raised a further $1m in seed funding.
The backers were not named.
The company, which has raised $2.6m in total funding, intends to use the funds to expand its platform.
Tagstr is a free platform that lets people share media including images, audio and video using hashtagged themes, rather than using Instagram’s follower-based model. This means users can see all media uploaded to the platform around a certain theme that they are interested in – for example Glastonbury – rather than being limited to seeing what people they follow have posted.
Launched in August 2014 by Michael Venn, Tagstr has been over 500,000 times on iOS and more than 20m images, videos and audio clips have been uploaded to the platform.
