Sphero, a Boulder, Colorado-based developer of connected play toys, secured an additional $45m in funding.
The round was led by Mercato Partners with participation from a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company and other strategic investors. Additionally, Mercato Partners Co-Founder and Managing Director, Greg Warnock, joined Sphero’s Board of Directors.
The company, which has raised $80m in total funding, intends to use the funds for product research and IP development and to further global expansion.
Founded by CEO Ian Bernstein and Adam Wilson, Sphero creates connected toys which fuses technology with innovations in robotics. Unlike traditional toys, the company’s robots and software allow users to create experiences to change the way people play, learn and explore. the Sphero team takes fun very seriously.
